Free Project: Tika Jabanashvili and Fransesco Sambati Research

Continuing my research on Tika Jabanashvili, her series called 'Autoportrait' is what inspires me into creating a similar layout like how she photographed it.

When asked on what inspired her into creating this series, she exclaims "Art means everything to me. I once saw a flower nearby and was struck with an idea. I then decided to start creating images that best described my love for art. Just like the flowers in these photographs, art is a part of me. It comes at the forefront of everything, just like the flowers which come before me." (Jabanashvili, 2021).

She exclaims that photography is a way to convey a message with unspoken words. To display your imagination and the world as you perceive it. It encourages you to start noticing the minor details in your everyday life and mobile photography makes it possible for us to swiftly and accurately capture what we notice. It is a simple method in achieving the anticipated outcomes.

She continues on to say that knowledge in camera usage does not determine the quality of the photographs. "In many cases, the truth of the shot depends on the surprise. Mobile photography is built on this spontaneity" (Jabanashvilli, 2021).

I then also did further research on another mobile photographer, Fransesco Sambati.

I found interest in his series called "Aphasia". Sambati found it difficult to convey his difficulties verbally, therefore he turned to photography to more directly portray it through this series. "In this society dominated by noise and commotion, almost one forgets the existence of silence, to the point of becoming his personal obsession." (dodho.com, n.d.).

Because of that reason, he depicts his silent feminine figures, allowing them to speak exclusively through the visuals. They chose isolation over becoming victims of the crowd and the city, whether they were figures in the shadows or entirely engulfed by sunlight. In this series, the open areas and interiors alternate to produce imagery where the real world and the ideal world might merge together, for a brief moment.

When asked about photography, Sambati responds
"Photography is a simple photograph" (dodho.com, n.d.)

"The only important thing is the spontaneity of the subject and the randomness of the environment: nothing must be pre-built and pre-established: he does not like the pictures taken in pose" (dodho.com, n.d.)

"He likes what is suggested rather than said, he prefers to focus on what his pictures do not show or say, rather than explicitly communicating a meaning or even simply a gesture" (dodho.com, n.d.)
