Welcome to Summer Term One 2023

Welcome to the start of my new term, Summer Term One 2023! From the last term, I have learned a lot and I am hoping to improve my skills more in this term. I will be posting my progress and work throughout the new term here, in my blog.

Here, I will start by discussing a director that I have found interest in throughout the break. Ahn Gil Ho, director of the series 'The Glory', a South-Korean drama about a women planning and plotting her revenge on her high-school bullies for over a decade. As horrible as it is, this series is sadly based on a real-life incident that occurred in 2006, at a girls' school in South Korea.

This series received countless positive reviews and reactions as the second season met the expectations of the audience, even going beyond it. They mentioned how smooth the plot was run in each episode without the use of fillers and unnecessary characters. The dialogue used and said was in no way cringey, as they may say it but more authentic and expressive.  The editing and camera angles also give us a sense of feeling every time the main character, Moon Dong-eun, shows up with a brilliant plan to take revenge on her high school bullies.

Though, I thought that the ending was a bit of a cliche since, after she successfully finished her revenge plot and successfully taken down her bullies, she lived on a new and progressively happy life with her new partner, Joo Yeo-jung. For me, it would have made more sense if Moon Dong-eun had done self-murder as from the beginning, her only purpose to keep going in life is to take revenge on her bullies after 18 years.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the series and enjoyed how the director and writer put out an amazing series that teaches us more on the subject of bullying.
