In this post, I will be discussing and further researching about a photographer who has used the concept 'Traces' in their photography.
Cristiano Mascaro
These images are from a collaboration Mascaro did with Polish artist, Sławomir Rumiak called 'Traces of People'. The images were taken by Cristiano Mascaro in the city of Gdansk and Warsaw in 2013.
The collaboration project has produced photographs documenting the landscape of Brazil and Poland. Even with no individuals there, they use the urban landscape to create a story about humans and what they have left behind. In this case, Mascaro has photographed the traces of citizens in the cities of Gdansk and Warsaw. The settings envisioned reveal a sensitivity, expertise, and the fascinations of the photographers themselves in addition to telling the story of the locations and people that built them.
For the first image, Mascaro utilised a key hanging station where I would assume is located in some sort of a hotel. Which then could be symbolising the traces of a hotel receptionist after handling their customers. In the second image, Mascaro utilised a piece of clothing left hanging on the clothing rack with more hangers symbolising a trace of someone.
Through this research, I am able to fully understand that traces of a person can be anything because it is mainly and literally traces left behind of someone in any type of situation and location.
