Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog! My name is Licca, I am a student at DMU International College and I am using this blog for my Digital Arts module. This blog will be an archive of my works throughout the lesson year.

My progression route after International Year Zero will be towards Film Studies. I hope through this blog, I can improve my skills and knowledge for my course next year along with improving from your comments.

Here, I will start by discussing one of my favourite movie that got me into the thriller genre, Forgotten.

A 2017 South Korean thriller and mystery movie directed and written by South Korean director, Hang-Jun Jang. Inspired by a story from his friend about his cousin who went missing for a month, then returned but acting strange, Hang-Jun Jang writes a story plot with an unexpected and twisted ending.

The film starts with Jin-Seok, a 21-year-old man, on the way to a new house with his family. One night, he witnesses his brother, Yoo-Seok, being kidnapped and dragged into an unknown car. After 19 days, his brother returned but doesn't remember anything about his disappearance and acts like nothing happened. From that, Jin-Seok is determined he will find who is responsible and get to the bottom of his brother's kidnapping. Though, throughout his investigation, he discovers a whole different story than just his brother's kidnapping.

Hang-Jun Jang wanted to depict a suspicious, eerie aura from the beginning. He mentions "I wanted to push this idea that even though this house is perfect and the family is perfect, something in that room might come out and endanger the family" (Jang, 2018). The mystery from the room along with how the father got so sensitive when the room is mentioned, it definitely sparked a sort of suspicion from the audience and a build up of curiosity onto what is inside that specific room.

This movie became one of the reasons why I fell in love with the thriller genre. The eerie and mysterious vibe, the suspicious characters, the plot of the story giving us hundreds of questions and wanting to stay until the end for answers. I hope in the future I can produce movies that will give a sense of curiosity and mystery similar to movies like this.
